Extremely robust encoders for demanding applications are not common in the rotary encoder market. And when they are available, they are often expensive solutions. However, WORLDWIDE WCE presents an exceptionally robust yet cost-effective alternative with its AGE60 rotary encoder.

The AGE60 is a redundant angular encoder with contactless signal detection using two independent HALL sensors. These two HALL sensors are monitored by a microcontroller to check the plausibility of the detected signal. If the detected absolute angular position is plausible, it is transmitted as a protocol to the bus via two independent CAN nodes. Thanks to this principle, angle or rotation detection is possible. In addition, WORLDWIDE WCE has adapted the useful signal so that it can also be provided via other output protocols, such as SPI.

High precision with compact design

Mechanically, the rotary encoder impresses with its compact and adaptable aluminium housing with a diameter of approximately 59 mm and a height of approximately 30 mm. The IP67 sealing and the shaft mounted on precision ball bearings characterise this robust encoder. Thanks to this special shaft and the electronics used, the angle encoder achieves a resolution of 10 bits with a rotation angle of 90° and 14 bits with 360°. The usable angle can be adapted to the specific customer project from 1° to 359°.

Resistant to various environmental conditions

Signal detection using contactless HALL sensors makes the AGE60 virtually indestructible. It has passed tests for vibration resistance according to IEC 68-2-6 and for impact resistance according to IEC 28-2-27. In addition, the AGE60 is approved for operating temperatures from -20°C to +85°C. Despite these features, the AGE60 is a comparatively inexpensive alternative and offers an excellent choice for tight budgets. With these special properties, the encoder is particularly suitable for use in extremely demanding environments, such as agricultural or construction machines, and is already in serial application.
