WORLDWIDE WCE has developed a new rotary encoder concept completely based on sensor technology.

This innovative rotary encoder uses our capaTEC© technology, which is capacitive in nature. Unlike traditional encoders with mechanical parts, this device does not contain any moving parts. Instead, it is set up by a sliding motion of several fingers along a cylinder. The operator's fingers act as individual factors that can be detected by capacitive measurement. Internal electrodes are fitted within the rotary encoder by a carrier element, and the housing remains completely closed, with no mechanical components or rotating parts. Environmentally Insensitive Technology

The advantages of this type of rotary encoder are obvious. The concept is hermetic. The protrusion for the sensor encoder is integrated directly into the front panel of the end device, keeping the surface completely closed. It can be seamlessly integrated into acrylic glass or plastic surfaces. As there are no moving parts, wear due to friction or contamination is excluded. Consequently, the entire system is extremely resistant to environmental conditions and easy to install. Flexible Adaptation of the Operating Concept

Thanks to its dynamic operating concept, the rotary encoder can change from a continuous control element to a step switch during operation. The resolution of the rotary encoder can also be flexibly adapted to any additional manipulated variables required. Not only the operation of the sensor encoder can be adjusted, but also the size and diameter of the encoder, the number of sensor surfaces, the resolution and the integration of haptic feedback – all according to the specific application requirements. Furthermore, it is possible to implement an additional button function or, alternatively, a display on the front of the rotary encoder. This novel solution enables the development of completely new operating surface designs. Wide Application Range of Sensor Encoder

The capacitive rotary encoder is particularly suitable in environments that require regular cleaning or disinfection. This new technology also convinces in industrial environments and outdoor areas. In these locations, dust and moisture are often a challenge for conventional rotary encoders and switches. In contrast, the new sensor rotary encoder offers an attractive alternative.
