In the demanding industrial world, where space is limited and safety requirements are crucial, the ESC17 mini SAFETY rotary encoder from WorldWide - WCE stands out with its advantages.

The ESC17 mini product series consists of remarkably compact encoders based on the proven HALL principle. Now, this product family has a new member: the ESC17 mini SAFETY, which takes input safety to a new level through redundancy.

Magnetic detection of rotary motion and button signals makes the ESC17 mini SAFETY virtually wear-free and extremely reliable. With 16 locking positions, the ball-spring locking mechanism offers pleasant haptic feedback.

This technology has proven itself in numerous products, including the ESC17 mini, its ESC17 series relatives, and electromechanical predecessors such as the SC17 and BG17. The ESC17 mini family’s latching mechanisms are designed to withstand hundreds of thousands of rotations and scanning movements, and their feel can be tailored to customer needs.

Protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) according to IEC 61000-4-2 is guaranteed under installation conditions, and the rotary encoder has passed the respective tests with flying colours. The ESC17 mini is not affected by electromagnetic disturbances, as specified in DIN EN 12895, and guarantees constant operation without negative influences.

Thanks to the two independent HALL sensors, the rotary and tactile signal is detected redundantly. In case of error, a separate signal is issued via a dedicated PIN, ensuring reliable and safe operation at all times.

Robust and Compact

With dimensions of 17 x 19 mm (L x W) and an installation height of 11 mm below the front plate, the rotary encoder is significantly more compact than comparable products on the market.

Its high robustness makes it particularly suitable for use in mobile and compact devices such as defibrillators or portable terminals for tools, robots and cobots. Thanks to its water and dust resistance on the front side, it is also suitable for use in extreme environmental conditions, such as in operating units of CNC machines working with lubricants and coolants, municipal vehicles, in forestry and agriculture, as well as in construction machines and their portable terminals.

In short, wherever redundant signal input and reliable error-recognition detection are required, especially when people can enter the working range of the machine.

Adaptations for Special Requirements

Thanks to an intelligent modular system, WorldWide - WCE offers a variety of adaptations for its rotary encoders. In this way, individual solutions can be realized for different applications.

Development is always focused on designing the best possible product for the respective operators, with a focus on quality and long life to provide end users with lasting benefits from customized solutions.
